Welcome to Chollas-Mead!
Chollas-Mead Elementary is located two blocks east of Interstate 805, in the Chollas View neighborhood of the Diamond District, which includes Emerald Hills, Lincoln Park, Mountain View, Mount Hope, North and South Encanto, Oak Park, Valencia Park and Webster.
We are a on a traditional calendar school year.
Our population is culturally diverse. We were recognized for closing the achievement gaps across ethnicities for the past two school years. In December 2008, we were recognized for the most improved attendance.
We have two campuses with one central office. Chollas contains grades 3 through 5. Mead houses Pre K, 1, and 2. In 2003 Chollas underwent major renovations; Mead opened in 2006. Each campus has regular and Special Education classrooms, library, computer lab, auditorium/ multi-purpose facility, cafeteria, workroom, staff lounge and fields. The child-care center and preschool classes are located in between both campuses.
Teachers stringently follow Common Core standards while incorporating technology. Students are exposed to, and are expected to utilize, technology in their projects. Two technology specialists work in our labs. All classrooms have laptop stations and use i21 technology equipment. Grades 3-6 have laptops and iPads.
Our expectation is for every parent and staff to assist students to reach proficient or advance competency in English, mathematics, science and social studies. Parents are encouraged to participate in the harvest festival, holiday program, poetry celebration, talent show and other community-building events. Parents are involved in governance, SSC and our PTA.
Our partners, Jacobs Foundation, Malcolm X Library, and Jackie Robinson YMCA support our school in various ways.
